SEOUL/TOKYO -- Samsung Electronics' chip segment has yet to fully reap the spiking demand for advanced AI semiconductors due to initial production setbacks that allowed rival SK Hynix to surge ahead.

Samsung on Wednesday reported a 6.45 trillion won ($4.7 billion) operating profit at its chip division during the second quarter ended June. This reverses the 4.36 trillion-won operating loss from the year-earlier quarter.
