New Zealand warns of 'assertive' China in 1st national security strategy

SYDNEY -- China seeks to spread its influence across the Pacific, New Zealand says in its inaugural national security strategy published Friday, warning that Beijing could upset the strategic balance in the region.

"China has become more assertive and more willing to challenge existing international rules and norms," the strategy says.
