Myanmar releases detained Japanese executive after sentencing

Military neither explains decision nor gives Hiroshi Kasamatsu's whereabouts

YANGON/BANGKOK -- Myanmar's military regime has released a Japanese executive of the Aeon retail chain mere hours after sentencing him to one year in prison for violating rice price controls.

Myanmar military spokesperson Zaw Min Tun on Monday announced Hiroshi Kasamatsu's release without providing reasons or details about his whereabouts.
