Mongolia's food scene expands with Yoshinoya beef bowls, Japanese ramen

Booming economy attracts Japan restaurant chains as middle class grows

ULAANBAATAR -- Restaurant operators from Japan are expanding their footprint in Mongolia, where coal exports to China have been fueling economic growth and increasing consumer spending on dining out.

"I came to like beef bowls, so I eat them once in a while," said a woman who was having lunch recently at Japanese fast-food chain Yoshinoya with a coworker in the Mongolian capital.
