TOKYO -- Japan's official development assistance (ODA) reached a record $19.6 billion in 2023, as the country ramps up foreign aid amid the growing influence of China -- and its massive infrastructure aid projects -- in the Indo-Pacific.
Tokyo also has increased investment in international organizations to provide aid for Ukraine following the Russian invasion and to assist poor countries affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
