TOKYO -- Japan's government is backing a bid to export underground railway technology from the country for a metro project in the Dominican Republic, Nikkei has learned.

The move, through Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) program, underscores how the nation is pushing to boost infrastructure exports at a time when China is strengthening its influence by funding public projects in Latin America.
