China to cut red tape so more couples tie the knot

Nation aims to boost birth rate as young people stay single in flagging economy

BEIJING -- China plans to eliminate some of the paperwork needed for marriage, in an effort to encourage young people to start families as the birth rate continues to fall.

Under a proposed regulatory change by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, people registering their marriages will no longer need to submit a special document: a household register listing personal information on family members.
