TOKYO -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi was expected in Myanmar on Wednesday amid growing pressure from Beijing on the military regime to restore peace after losing key outposts to resistance forces in recent weeks.

Wang's visit to Myanmar comes after his special envoy for Asian affairs, Deng Xijun, held talks with regime leader Min Aung Hlaing in Naypyitaw last Thursday. That meeting came following a reported withdrawal of Myanmar security forces from positions in the northern state of Shan, which borders China.
