MUMBAI -- Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus on Thursday became the leader of Bangladesh's caretaker government, days after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country amid violent protests.

Yunus, who just returned from France that day, said he hoped to rescue the country from turmoil, according to local media.
