DHAKA -- The situation in Bangladesh remains tense despite a Supreme Court Appellate Division ruling on Sunday that opened the way for most government jobs to be given to the best applicant.
Student demonstrations rose up weeks ago in the capital of Bangladesh demanding that the government scrap a so-called quota system and hand out civil service jobs in a more equitable manner. The demonstrations were a response to a High Court verdict that had reinstated the quotas.
