ASEAN members at odds over how to resolve Myanmar crisis

Myanmar 'hopeful' about resuming relations with bloc

VIENTIANE -- The Association of Southeast Asian Nations has been struggling to ease strains in its relations with the military regime in Myanmar, even as the country is hopeful of restoring normal ties with the regional bloc.

Ahead of any joint statement from Laos this week, a senior government official from one of the bloc's member countries told Nikkei Asia after a plenary session of ASEAN foreign ministers on Thursday that ASEAN member countries still face difficulties interacting with Myanmar.
